Activity Title: Yarn Toss Activity |
Suggested Grade/Age Range: Grades 7-8 |
Activity Objective: The objective of this activity is to integrate the learnings across all of the modules and explore what is personally meaningful for the youth. |
Materials Required: A ball of yarn |
Prep Time: 5 minutes Prepare materials needed Task Time: 40 minutes |
Activity Description: 1. Tell the class that the purpose of this activity is to have each individual share about one of the following: a) One or two messages they are taking away from this program b) An important lesson they have learned about healthy relationships c) What was the most personally meaningful aspect of the program for them 2. Give the ball of yarn to the first individual and have them share about one of the above topics. Once they are done, tell them to hold onto the end of the yarn and pass the ball onto the next individual. Tell the class to pass the yarn in different directions (the result should look like a web/net). The next individual will share and then hold onto a length of the yarn and pass the ball on and so on until the last person has shared 3. Direct the class’ attention to the web/net that they have formed with the yarn. Tell them that this symbolizes how their individual reflections and gained knowledge about healthy relationships creates a “safety net”. This “safety net” represents the important messages or web of knowledge around navigating and building healthy relationships that they need. It is a net because a healthy relationship cannot be built by just one person, but requires the collaborative effort of all people involved. The net of yarn also represents a sense of community that was created over the 12 weeks by intertwining the feedback and stories of individuals around these shared topics |
Activity Extensions: Have the whole class together or in small groups work on posters around important messages for Healthy Relationships based on everything they have learned. These can then be posted as a display around the school |
